Germs vs. bacteria

Most people think that germs are the same thing as bacteria. But germs can have a significant role in our lifetimes. Most germs are pathogens but some make up organs in our body, like teeth. Those are called dental germs. Germs also make up part of the enamel organ. Those are called enamel germs (Farlex). But most germs are pathogens [agents of disease](medicine net) . In fact all types of germs have agents of disease. Viruses are a type of germ. Viruses are non living, single celled agents of disease. They cannot survive or reproduce without a host cell. Some diseases that viruses can spread are childhood diseases like chickenpox or the measles (Nemours children’s care). It also comes in the form of flu’s like H1N1. Fungi are also considered a type of germ. Fungi are plant like organisms that are heterotrophic, meaning they can’t make their own food. Fungi can cause athletes foot. Protozoa are single celled organisms that like moisture and live in water. They cause water born diseases. They also cause diarrhea and sometimes stomach aches. Finally the last type of germ is bacteria (Nemours children’s care).
Bacteria are the second part of my topic. Again most people think that bacteria are the same thing as germs. Bacteria are only a type of germ. Bacteria are single celled organisms, most of them are pathogenic (ozone lab). They spread stuff like strep, ear infections and cavity’s. Bacteria are also useful; some are used to make food, like cheese. Some are used to make medicines and vaccines (Nemours children’s care).
So the point of all this is that germs and bacteria are not the same thing. Bacteria are a type of germ that is not only pathogenic but they are also useful in society in the art of food and in the practice of making medicine. Whereas Germs are mostly pathogenic and (other than making organs) are not very useful to society.
